Discussions have taken place between Louth County Council and the HSE for a new base for the National Ambulance Service which will see the current base move from its site on Cottage Hospital.
Mayor of Louth County Council, Cllr Paul Bell arranged for the local authority and the health authority to meet to discuss the plans, and according to the Mayor, the current ambulance base is ‘no longer suitable for ambulance personnel or their equipment.’
Ambulance staff and local officials in the North East town have been calling for a new ambulance base for some time and they are happy that Louth County Council have now engaged with the HSE for the new base.
Choosing a suitable site for the base is crucial to the town and its environs, from an ambulance response and operation perspective. While some informal inspections of potential sites have not been found to be suitable, the Mayor is confident a suitable site will be identified and agreed soon.
