The Naval Service Vessel LÉ Niamh (P52) detained an Irish registered fishing vessel approximately 40 nautical miles south of the Old Head of Kinsale Co. Cork. The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.
The vessel has been escorted by the LÉ Niamh to Cork Harbour, where it will be handed over to An Garda Síochána.
This is the sixth vessel detained by the Naval Service so far in 2019. The Defence Forces conducts at sea fishery inspections in line with the service level agreement with the Sea Fishery Protection Authority, as part of its delivery of government services to the state.
