Two people have died following separate river incidents in Galway this afternoon.Shortly before 2.30pm today, the Irish Coast Guard and the RNLI were called to assist in a rescue of a woman, believed to be in her 40’s, who had got into difficulty in the water close to the docks of Galway harbour.
An RNLI lifeboat recovered the body of a woman where she was brought o the nearby Lifeboat station before being taken to University Hospital Galway.
Gardaí have said a post mortem will be carried out on the woman’s body.
In a separate incident, the body of a young man was recovered from the River Corrib at Dangan, after emergency services were alerted when the man got into difficulty in the water.
Galway Fire Service, local Sub-Aqua teams and the Coast Guard’s Shannon based rescue helicopter were all involved in the operation.
The body of the 19 year old man was taken from the river by local sub-aqua unit. He was pronounced dead at the scene art around 4pm today.
His body has been taken to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem will be carried out.
