Teen arrested after hijacking ambulance in Dublin

A teenager was arrested this morning after attempting to hijack an emergency ambulance in Dublin.

The ambulance was attending an incident at Mountjoy Street in the city when the incident happened at around 8.45am. The teenage male crashed the ambulance after driving it a short distance before being restrained and detained by the crew until gardaí arrived.

The emergency ambulance is D114, a Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance based at Tara Street station and the crew may have been treating a patient in the back of the emergency vehicle when the incident began.

The Garda Armed Support Unit attended the scene.

The male was arrested at the scene and taken to Mountjoy Garda Station where he was charged with ‘unauthorised taking of a vehicle’. He has since been release from garda custody.
