Sad scenes in Cork following Fatal Fire

Two men have died, a woman is injured and a neighbour suffered burns following a house fire in Macroom, Co. Cork overnight.

A woman who was in the house escaped from the fire when she jumped from an upstairs window of the family home.

Two men, aged in their 60’s and 20’s, received medical treatment at the scene, however, they both died. Theur bodies were taken to Cork University Hospital after 6am where a post mortem examination will take place.

The female occupant of the house, aged in her 60’s, and a neighbour who attempted to save the family from the fire were both brought to CUH for examination. The woman is said to be in a serious condition while the neighbour suffered minor injuries.

The alarm was raised at around 4am when a fire was discovered at a house in St. Colman’s Park, Macroom.

Units of Cork County Fire Brigade from Macroom and Ballincollig responded to the call and brought the fire under control quickly. Emergency services remain at the scene this morning.

Fire Officers are said to be focusing their attention on the kitchen and living room as the source of the fire and Gardaí say they believe the fire may have started accidently, however a full technical examination of the scene will take place.
