Proposals for new helipad at University Hospital Galway

Galway City Council has heard proposals for a new helipad for University Hospital Galway.

The current helicopter pad is on a temporary landing pad off the Séamus Quirke road at Shantalla, adjacent to the Galway City Council grounds. The new proposal will see the helipad situated on recreational and amenity lands in Shantalla.

The proposal is part of the city’s Transport Management Plan which was presented to city councillors at a council meeting earlier this week.

The UHG helipad is used primarily by the Irish Coast Guard Sikorsky S92 Rescue Helicopters and the Irish Air Corps’ MediVac.

The plan focuses on the movement of people as opposed to vehicles and aims to provide a dedicated public transport corridor connecting the west and east of the city through the city centre.
