Order of Malta members nominated in Mayo Garda Youth Awards.

The Mayo Garda Division launched their inaugural Mayo Garda Youth Awards takes place tonight, in association with SuperValu.

The awards celebrate outstanding young people between the ages of 13 and 21 years who through their good work make a difference in their community.

Cadets from the Westport Order of Malta unit are being recognised for their outstanding service to the Westport community. In addition to the Cadet team, Thomas Tunney, a senior member of the Westport Order of Malta unit is also being nominated to receive an award for the work he has done in arranging and helping to facilitate the Adams’ Gift day in Rice College, Westport which resulted in over 500 students being trained in life saving CPR skills.

Mayo Garda Inspector Mandy Gaynor, chairperson of the organising committee, said: “We wish to recognise the sacrifices and contributions made by young people as they enhance their community at a local level, making them a better place to live.”

The Mayo Garda Youth Awards ceremony will take place on this evening in the Great National Hotel in Ballina.
