A man in his 50's has died following a collision earlier today on the outskirts of Mallow, Co. Cork.The crash involving a truck and four cars occurred on the Cork to Limerick road at around midday.

The Air Corps helicopter was alerted to the incident along with up to five ambulances from the HSE NAS and a number of units of the fire service in Cork. Other motorists were treated for lesser injuries. Gardai in Mallow have said they were dealing with a major incident.
An eye witness told the Irish Independent that a horse which was being transported in a horse box was thrown from the trailer. The horse died on the roadside.
Gardai are investigating the collision and he road will remain closed for a number of hours.
