Man dies following Kildare Collision

A man has died following a single vehicle collision in County Kildare. The crash occurred at around 9.30pm last night on the R417 at Cush, on the main Athy to Kildangan/Monasterevin road. He was aged 61. It is understood the van collided with a ditch and overturned. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai, a HSE Ambulance and two units of Kildare Fire Service from Athy and Monasterevin attended the scene.

The road is expected to remain closed until around lunchtime today. Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Kildare Gardai on 045-527730 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Serious Collision Ballinasloe
Meanwhile, Gardai in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway are investigating a serious road traffic collision which occurred on the Athlone road, Kilgarve, Creagh, Ballinasloe at approximately 9pm last night.

The crash involved two cars. The male driver of one of the cars was seriously injured and taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe while  the male driver of the second car escaped uninjured.  Witnesses are asked to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 090-9631890 or any Garda Station.
