Garda investigation as €2,000 worth of fire gear stolen from fire vehicle

Almost €2,000 worth of firefighting equipment was stolen from a fire vehicle while firefighters were tackling a gorse fire in Roscommon.

Fire crews from Roscommon and Mayo were dealing with large area gorse and bog fires at Gortaganny on Saturday evening last, May 16th.

As firefighters from Ballaghadereen, Co. Roscommon and Ballyhaunis, Charlestown and Swinford County Mayo were dealing with the fires, equipment from a fire vehicle was being stolen.

Among the stolen items were firefighting gear, lighting equipment and other tools. Gardaí at Ballaghaderreen believe the theft occurred around 8pm. Gardaí say the items have since been recovered.
