Fifty workers evacuated following fire at Shannon factory

A fire broke out at a metal sheet fabrication factory in Shannon, Co. Clare this afternoon.

It is understood a machine burst into flames at the Ohshima plant shortly before 4pm.  Up to fifty staff at the premises quickly evacuated when the automatic fire alarm activated.

Gardai from Shannon and three units of Clare County Fire Service attended the incident where fire-fighters brought the fire under control. The fire service remained at the scene for a number of hours, using water to allow the machines to cool.

Nobody was injured in the fire.
