Dublin Fire Brigade prepare final farewell to firefighter Gerry Sweeney, R.I.P.

Dublin Fire Brigade will gather tomorrow, Friday 5th July to bid their final goodbyes to one of their won, FF/P Gerry Sweeney.

Gerry Sweeney (DFB Badge 426) sadly passed away earlier this week. He was on C-Watch at Station Number 3, Phibsboro fire station. He was serving 38 years with DFB at the time of his passing.

Funeral Arrangements:

At approximately 9.15am tomorrow, 5th July, the remains of FF Gerry Sweeney will be removed from Kirwans Funeral Home, Ballygall Rd West, Finglas and brought to the Church of the Holy Child, Swords Road, Whitehall for Requiem Mass at 10:00hrs followed by Funeral at Dardistown Cemetery.

FF/P Sweeney will receive full Fire Brigade Ceremonial Honours. As many of Gerry’s colleagues and friends, in full uniform, are invited to accompany him on his final turnout by marching behind the Turn Table Ladder (TTL).

The arrangements are as follows

•  Gerry’s remains will be borne on TTL, accompanied by Bearer Party from the Funeral Home to RV at St Aidans CBS on Collins Ave Extension at 09:20hrs

•  Those wishing to March behind the TTL will assemble at St Aidans School (see map attached) from 09:00hrs ready to March to Church at 09:15hrs at the latest. 

•  D/O Mario Ladola is the Parade Commander

•  Transport to St Aidans CBS will be available by Bus at the OBI from 08:30hrs leaving no later than 08:50hrs, thereon to the Cemetery following the Requiem Mass and back to the OBI

•  The Order of March will be a lone Piper followed by the TTL, followed by the Mourning Cars, Dublin Fire Brigade Pipe Band, followed in turn by the Marching group of all Services

•  A Drummer will assist the Marching group tapping out the Pace.

•  Dress is full uniform with Ribbons. No Medals. 

•  Parking is available optionally in St Colmcille GAA Club on Collins Ave (See attached Photograph) there is no parking in St Aidans CBS

•  An Honour Guard will be formed from Uniformed Personnel at the end of the Requiem Mass outside the Church, 

•  Gerry’s remains will be reposing in Kirwans Funeral Home on Ballygall Road West Dublin 11 on Thursday the 4th of July.

•   Those travelling to the Cemetery from the Church in their own Vehicles (in Uniform or otherwise please) assemble inside the Gates of Dardistown Cemetery to await the Cortege. The uniformed members will follow the TTL and Mourning Cars on their progress from the Gates to the Grave Site or in the vicinity of Same in similar order to the March to the Church. These arrangements will be confirmed on the day.
