A fire fighter who was injured after being struck by stones which were thrown at the fire tender he was riding on was admitted to hospital last night. The fire crew were attending an incident in Co Louth when the attack took place in Marian Park, Dundalk at around 9pm.
Dundalk Fire Service were alerted to a report of grass on fire in an area known locally as ‘The Glump’ and while the fire crew were attending the fire, missiles were thrown at the fire engine and crew. The fire fighter was struck on the shoulder and on the helmet.
He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment but later released.
Fire personnel in Dundalk came under similar attack in March last when a number of youths attacked the crew at the scene of a bonfire at Cox’s Demense.
Gardai in Dundalk are investigating the incident.
