The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordanance Disposal (EOD) team following a request by Gardai last night after a suspect device was found at a private residence in the Ballyogan area of Carrickmines.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety, while a number of nearby houses were evacuated.

An Army Bomb Disposal unit arrived on the scene at 10pm and rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device. The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and was brought to a safe military location for further examination. All component parts and evidence will be handed over to the Gardaí to assist them with their investigation into the incident.

The scene was declared safe at 10.50 pm.
