The Irish Air Corps reached a huge milestone yesterday when it airlifted it’s 3000th patient in the Emergency Aeromedical Service helicopter.Yesterday, the crew of Air Corps 112 were tasked to a farming incident in Co. Clare. The patient was airlifted to University College Galway, a journey which would have taken approximately 80 minutes by road, but only took 8 minutes by air.
The EAS began in 2012 as part of a joint venture between the Irish Defence Forces and the National Ambulance Service, to provide a dedicated AW139 helicopter for rapid transfer of critical patients to the nearest and most suitable hospital.
The Air Corps 112 helicopter is based out of Custume Barracks, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
